Description
Wet Area Rubber Flooring – Non-Slip Studded Matting for Showers, Pool Surrounds & Changing Rooms
Why Facilities Managers Choose Studded Rubber for Wet Areas
Wet area flooring has one job above all others: keeping people safe on surfaces that are permanently wet. Tile grout that grows algae. Vinyl that becomes treacherous with body lotions. Painted concrete that's lethal when wet. These create accidents, injuries, and liability.
This studded rubber flooring solves the safety challenges wet areas present:
- R11 rated when wet: The slip resistance is specifically tested and rated for wet conditions. Not "works when dry"—genuinely safe when water is constantly present.
- Self-draining design: Water flows between the raised penny studs rather than pooling. The surface dries faster, reducing slip hazards between cleaning cycles.
- Barefoot friendly: The rounded penny pattern is comfortable underfoot. No sharp edges, no uncomfortable textures—suitable for barefoot walking around pools and changing areas.
- Hygiene compliant: Non-porous rubber doesn't harbour bacteria, mould, or fungi. Cleans easily with pool-side safe disinfectants.

Wet Area Applications
Swimming Pool Surrounds
The critical transition from pool edge to dry areas. The R11 rating provides the grip needed where swimmers exit with wet feet. Resistant to chlorinated pool water and regular hosing.
Changing Room Floors
High-traffic areas with constant moisture from showers and pool access. The rubber provides grip for barefoot and flip-flopped users while maintaining hygiene standards.
Shower Rooms
Commercial and institutional shower areas where water never stops. The drainage pattern prevents pooling, the R11 grip prevents slips, and the non-porous surface prevents mould growth.
Gym Wet Areas
Shower and changing facilities in fitness centres. The rubber handles the traffic volume and cleaning regimes of busy gym facilities.
Spa & Wellness Centres
Around steam rooms, saunas, and treatment areas. Where oils, lotions, and water combine, the studded pattern maintains grip.

Frequently Asked Questions – Wet Area Flooring
Is R11 adequate for swimming pool surrounds?
Yes. R11 is the standard slip rating for wet pedestrian areas including pool surrounds. It provides safe grip for barefoot walking on wet surfaces where water is routinely present.
Will pool chlorine damage the rubber?
No. SBR rubber is resistant to chlorinated pool water at normal pool concentrations. The material won't degrade, discolour, or lose slip resistance from chlorine exposure.
Does water pool on the surface?
No. Water flows between the raised penny studs and drains according to the underlying floor gradient. The studded pattern prevents pooling that creates slip hazards on flat rubber.
Is it comfortable barefoot?
Yes. The rounded penny studs are specifically comfortable for barefoot walking. There are no sharp edges or aggressive textures. The rubber is warmer underfoot than tiles.
Can body lotions and sun cream affect slip resistance?
Oily products can reduce grip on any surface. The studded pattern helps maintain traction even when contaminated, but regular cleaning is important in pool and spa environments where these products are used.
Will the rubber grow mould?
No. SBR rubber is non-porous and doesn't provide a growth medium for mould or mildew. Regular cleaning with standard wet-area disinfectants maintains hygiene.
How long will it last in a commercial pool facility?
In commercial leisure facilities with proper maintenance, expect 8-12 years of service. The rubber maintains slip resistance throughout its life when cleaned regularly.
Can we use this in sauna and steam room areas?
The rubber is suitable for areas outside saunas and steam rooms (changing areas, relaxation zones). For inside saunas, check temperature limits—the +60°C rating is not suitable for direct sauna bench areas.
