Is this rubber sheet safe for fish ponds?
Yes, SBR rubber is widely used for fish ponds and is safe once installed. We recommend filling and draining the pond once before adding fish to remove any residual manufacturing oils. After this initial rinse, the liner is completely safe for fish and plants.
How do I join two pieces of rubber sheet?
Overlap the sheets by at least 100mm (150mm for ponds). Clean both surfaces, apply rubber-to-rubber adhesive, press firmly together and allow to cure for 24 hours before filling with water. For critical applications, use a seam roller to ensure full contact.
Can this be used for flat roof waterproofing?
Yes, but for permanent roof installations, our dedicated EPDM rubber roofing is a better choice as it has superior UV resistance and longer outdoor lifespan. This SBR sheet is suitable for temporary covers, shed roofs, and areas with limited UV exposure.
What thickness do I need for a pond liner?
For most garden ponds, 5mm is ideal – thick enough to resist punctures but flexible enough to form to the pond shape. For larger ponds or areas with rocky soil, 6mm provides extra protection. The 3mm option is suitable for small water features and planters.
How long will the waterproof rubber last?
With proper installation, SBR rubber pond liners and waterproof membranes typically last 15-25 years. Lifespan depends on UV exposure, water chemistry, and physical wear. Underground or covered installations last longest.
