What is the best rubber sheet thickness for a garage floor?
For garage flooring we recommend a minimum of 4mm to 6mm thickness for a comfortable, durable surface underfoot. If you will be driving vehicles over it, 6mm or above is advisable. For a workshop bench or tool mat, 3mm is usually sufficient. Our 6mm x 1400mm roll is our most popular choice for garage and workshop floors.
Can I lay rubber sheet over an uneven floor?
Rubber sheet and rubber rolls can accommodate minor floor imperfections and hairline cracks. For significantly uneven surfaces we recommend levelling with a self-levelling compound first to achieve the best long-term result and avoid premature wear on the sheet.
Is SBR rubber sheet resistant to oil and fuel?
SBR rubber has good resistance to engine oil, hydraulic fluid, and common workshop chemicals, making it a practical choice for garage and industrial environments. For prolonged or heavy-duty exposure to petroleum-based fuels or aggressive chemicals, Nitrile (NBR) rubber sheet offers a higher level of oil and fuel resistance.
How thick should workshop rubber flooring be?
For a general workshop floor we recommend 4mm to 8mm depending on the level of foot traffic and whether you are parking vehicles on it. For heavy machinery and forklift areas, 10mm to 15mm provides excellent protection and vibration absorption. For standing mats at workbenches, 6mm is the most popular choice.
Can I cut rubber sheet to fit around obstacles?
Yes. SBR rubber sheet can be easily cut to shape using a sharp Stanley knife, a box cutter, or heavy-duty scissors, depending on the thickness. For thicker gauges (10mm and above) a utility knife with a fresh blade or a jigsaw fitted with a rubber-cutting blade is recommended. Always cut on a sacrificial surface to protect your floor.
