Is natural rubber suitable for making gaskets?
Yes, natural rubber is excellent for gaskets where high elasticity and sealing pressure are needed. Its superior tear resistance means gaskets cut cleanly and don't rip during installation. However, avoid using NR gaskets with oils or petroleum products – use Nitrile rubber for those applications.
Why is natural rubber black coloured?
The black colour is the natural colour of rubber from the rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis). Unlike synthetic rubbers which are black from carbon black filler, natural rubber retains its original colour unless pigmented. This colour actually indicates high purity natural rubber content.
Can natural rubber be used outdoors?
Natural rubber has moderate UV resistance and will degrade over time in direct sunlight (surface cracking). For outdoor applications, EPDM rubber is a better choice. NR is best suited for indoor industrial applications, covered areas, or applications where UV exposure is minimal.
What's the difference between 40 Shore and 65 Shore rubber?
Shore hardness measures rubber firmness. Our natural rubber at 40 Shore is noticeably softer and more flexible than SBR at 65 Shore. Lower Shore = softer, more elastic. Higher Shore = firmer, more rigid. 40 Shore NR is ideal for seals and gaskets where conformability matters.
How do I cut natural rubber sheet?
Natural rubber cuts easily with a sharp Stanley knife and straight edge. For circular gaskets, use a gasket cutter or hole saw. The high tear resistance means you get clean edges without tearing. For production quantities, die cutting is most efficient.
