Description
Flame Retardant Rubber Sheet – Fire Resistant Industrial Grade
Specialist flame retardant rubber sheet engineered for fire-critical applications where standard rubber poses unacceptable fire risks. This FR-rated material self-extinguishes when flame is removed, dramatically reducing fire spread risk in industrial environments.
Fire Performance Standards
Our flame retardant rubber meets or exceeds:
- UL 94 V-0: Self-extinguishing within 10 seconds, no dripping
- BS 476 Part 7: Class 1 surface spread of flame
- EN 45545-2: Railway vehicle fire safety (HL2 grade available)
- FMVSS 302: Vehicle interior fire resistance
Test certificates available on request for project specifications.

How Flame Retardant Rubber Works
Standard rubber burns readily and can accelerate fire spread. Our FR compound contains halogenated or intumescent additives that:
- Release fire-inhibiting gases when heated
- Form protective char layers that insulate underlying material
- Interrupt the combustion chain reaction
- Cause self-extinguishing behaviour when ignition source is removed
Key Benefits
- Self-Extinguishing: Stops burning within seconds when flame is removed
- Low Smoke: Reduced smoke emission for improved escape visibility
- Compliance Ready: Meets major fire safety standards
- Mechanical Performance: Maintains good physical properties despite FR additives
- Cost-Effective: Affordable fire risk reduction
- Free UK Delivery: Fast dispatch for UK fire safety projects
Industrial Applications
Rail & Transport
Floor coverings, door seals, and interior trim meeting EN 45545-2 railway fire safety requirements. Critical for passenger safety in enclosed vehicles.
Marine & Offshore
Cabin flooring, engine room protection, and deck coverings. IMO/SOLAS compliant grades available for maritime applications.
Construction
Expansion joints, fire barrier seals, and acoustic isolation in fire-rated assemblies. Supports BS 476 compliance for building fire safety.
Electrical Enclosures
Gaskets, grommets, and cable entry seals in switchgear and control panels. UL 94 V-0 rating often specified by electrical safety standards.
Mining & Underground
Conveyor belting and equipment components where fire underground poses severe escape risks. Flame retardant specification is mandatory in many mining regulations.
Standard vs Flame Retardant Comparison
| Property | Standard SBR | Flame Retardant |
|---|---|---|
| Ignition | Burns readily | Difficult to ignite |
| Flame Spread | Supports combustion | Self-extinguishes |
| Smoke | Heavy black smoke | Reduced smoke |
| Dripping | Molten drips spread fire | No dripping (V-0) |
| Cost | Lower | 20-40% premium |
