Rubber vs Foam vs PVC
Rubber: 20+ year lifespan, handles dropped weights, waterproof, R10–R11 slip resistance. The industry standard. Browse rubber gym flooring.
EVA Foam: Permanently compresses under weights, 2–5 year lifespan. Domestic yoga/pilates only.
PVC/Vinyl: Sports halls and dance studios — not for weights areas.
Home Gym vs Commercial
Home gym: 15mm interlocking tiles, DIY install, removable, no adhesive. A 20m² garage gym costs £360–£600 at 15mm.
Commercial gym: 15–20mm throughout, 25–40mm in Olympic zones, roll matting for cardio. Must meet Use Class 33 (BS EN ISO 10874) and R10 slip resistance (DIN 51130).
Installation
Tiles: Start centre of room, click together, jigsaw for perimeter cuts, edge bevels on all exposed edges. No adhesive needed. 2–3 hours for 20m².
Rolls: Allow 30 minutes to relax. Heavy knife for 15mm+. Contact adhesive for commercial permanent installation.
